California has provided us with abalone, adobe, Big Foot (Sasquatch), embarcadero, and many other terms. Hoosiers come from Indiana and Down-Easters from Maine. g. boll weevil, bracero, buckaroo, chaparral, chaps, corral, ebony, and esplanade.

You will certainly find some terms missing, even after a diligent search. The book is not a be-all-and-end-all. But you will be surprised at the number of writing, translation and interpretation questions for which you can find a quick answer. Not to mention exploration of the nooks and crannies of American English, useful for enriching one’s writing.
