It is possible to have a system where there is a small printer near at hand for day-to-day work, and access to a larger and more elaborate output device for special jobs. The bigger machines may have a wider range of options: type size, spacing, page size and layout, specially wide paper, and so on. All printers are noisy, usually too noisy to allow them to be sited in office space, still less in searchrooms. Acoustic covers are available for many models, but it is still better to site the printer in a separate room.
